Lights fall down four lanes onto a grid of pads. The song as a faint staff sits in the corner. The pad being hit has a thick edge and a dot.

The games

Lights fall down four lanes onto a grid of pads. The song as a faint staff sits in the corner. The pad being hit has a thick edge and a dot.

Illustration

Pad Run Vertical

Notes fall toward your pads while the staff scrolls behind them: read it, hit it, keep the song going.

Plays with: An 8x8 grid controller that sends MIDI (Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a computer; not Safari or iPhone), or the pads on the screen.

Free

Lights come in from the right toward a grid of pads on the left. The song as a faint staff sits behind the lanes. The pad being hit has a thick edge and a dot.

Illustration

Pad Run Horizontal

Same game, turned sideways: the grid sits on the left and notes fly in from the right, over a faint staff.

Plays with: An 8x8 grid controller that sends MIDI (Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a computer; not Safari or iPhone), or the pads on the screen.

Free

Notes move right to left along a staff. The current note is ringed, and a thin line runs from it to the pad that plays it.

Illustration

Staff Run Pads

Real notation streams from the right; each note lights its pad target as it arrives. Read the staff, find the pad.

Plays with: An 8x8 grid controller that sends MIDI (Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a computer; not Safari or iPhone), or the pads on the screen.

Free

Notes with their written rhythm move right to left along a staff: a beamed pair, a hollow half note, and a faint dashed note that this level skips.

Illustration

Staff Run Rhythm

Read the notes with their rhythm, from the right, and play them in time on a keyboard.

Plays with: A MIDI keyboard (Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a computer; not Safari or iPhone), or the Stylophone on the screen.

Free

Notes move along a staff, then fall onto a piano. The key they land on is lit, with a thick edge and a dot.

Illustration

Piano Run

The staff streams in, then each note falls onto a lit piano. Play it on the screen keys or a MIDI keyboard.

Plays with: The piano keys on the screen, or a MIDI keyboard (Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a computer; not Safari or iPhone).

Best sideways on phones

Free on the screen keys and with a MIDI keyboard

How it teaches

The staff is the board

You read real notation the whole time; it's how you know what to play next.

Every note has a place

Each pitch maps to one pad or one key, so your hands learn where the notes live.

Four difficulties, same song

Start on Easy, finish on Hard, without changing songs.

Play it on real gear

Ableton Push 3

Experimental: Chrome or Edge on a computer, close Live first.
